Deputies Search for Missing 43-year-old Man
Wednesday, May 25, 2011

Lexington County, SC (WLTX) -- Lexington County deputies are searching for a 43-year-old Chapin man they say was last seen at his parents' home on May 7.

Investigators with the Lexington County Sheriff's Department are searching for John Henry Mayers of Skylark Lane in Chapin.

Mayers is described as being 5'10" and 240 pounds in weight, with black hair, brown eyes and a scar that extends from his left ear to his forehead. Deputies say he was last seen wearing a light blue shirt and dark blue pants.

Deputies say Mayers's parents told them that it's not like the man to be out of contact for that amount of time. The man's 72-year-old father reported his son missing on May 10, after telling a deputy that he last saw his son at about 9:30 a.m. The father said Mayers left the home to travel to a rehabilitation program, where Mayers sought treatment for a crack cocaine addiction.

Deputies have conducted aerial searches with a department helicopter, and ground searches with Newberry County deputies, due to Skylark Lane's closeness to the county's border with Lexington.

If you can help investigators find Mayers, you are urged to call CrimeStoppers of the Midlands at 1-888-CRIME-SC or text a tip to "CRIMES" with the term "TIPSC."
