Armed home invaders kill man, kidnap 5-day-old baby
Tuesday, May 17, 2011

KERSHAW COUNTY, SC (WIS) – The Kershaw County Sheriff's Office is looking for three men responsible for a home invasion, kidnapping and fatal shooting overnight.

Investigators say three armed men dressed in black kicked in the door to a home in the 300 block of Sandspur Road near the city of Camden. The incident happened just before 11:30 Monday night in the Knight's Hill community.

A 39-year-old man and the mother of his newborn baby were inside the home at the time. The man was shot multiple times and died at the scene.

The three men then forced the woman to drive them to another location where they had a car waiting. The 5-day-old baby was also kidnapped, according to investigators.

The men left in the getaway car, leaving the child and the woman in the other car unharmed. Investigators haven't disclosed that location.

Kershaw County Chief Deputy M.L. Brown says it's possible the three men are responsible for a string of other home invasions in Kershaw County and an armed robbery at a Food Lion in Camden Monday morning. But the sheriff's office is still investigating that possible connection.

Deputies have closed off the entrance to Sandspur Lane overnight while investigators process the scene.

The coroner has not yet identified the victim. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday morning.

Investigators say it's unclear if the robbers took any items from the home.
