Third area Waffle House robbed
Thursday, April 7, 2011

AIKEN COUNTY, SC - Aiken County sheriff's deputies are looking for a man who held up the Waffle House in Clearwater late Tuesday, the third time the chain has been robbed in the Augusta area in about two weeks.

According to sheriff's Capt. Charles Barranco, a white man entered the restaurant at 4390 Jefferson Davis Highway just before 10 p.m. Tuesday and robbed at least one employee at gunpoint.

According to a news release, a man dressed in black entered the Waffle House, pointed a handgun in the air, fired a single shot and demanded money from the cashier, then ran away.

The suspect was described as a white man, 6 feet tall and 200 pounds. The Aiken Bloodhound Tracking Team searched the area without finding him.

The Waffle House holdup Tuesday night is the third in the Augusta area since March 22.

Late last month, police investigated robberies at a Waffle House in North Augusta and another in Augusta in which the robber fired a gun into the air before fleeing.

Richmond County sheriff's Capt. Scott Peebles said police think those two incidents could be related.
