Deputies: Man Took $11,000 from 84-year-old
Wednesday, February 23, 2011

Richland County, SC (WLTX) - Richland County deputies say a 53-year-old man took advantage of an 84-year-old woman, promising to replace her driveway.

Deputies Thursday arrested Willie Lee Able and charged him with exploitation of a vulnerable adult.

Investigators say Able visited the woman seven times, promising to fix her driveway for a fee of $4,500. Over time, deputies say Able was able to take $11,000 from the woman, and he didn't complete the job that they agreed upon.

Sheriff Leon Lott said in a Friday news release, "Able took advantage of and preyed upon this victim."

If you or someone you know needs help learning how to protect yourself from being victimized, you can visit the Richland County Sheriff's Department's official website for more information.
